How Much Does Physics Tuition Cost in Singapore? (2026 Guide)

Parent guide · Read time: ~4 minutes

Physics tuition fees in Singapore range widely, from about $35 an hour for a small group class to $200 an hour for a top 1-to-1 tutor. Here's what parents typically pay in 2026, what drives the difference, and the costs that don't show up on the first quote.

Typical physics tuition rates in 2026

LevelSmall group class1-to-1 tutorWeekly 2h group class, per month
Sec 3 and Sec 4
O Level / SEC G3 Physics
$35 to $60 per hour$50 to $100 per hour$280 to $400
JC1 and JC2
A Level H2 Physics
$45 to $75 per hour$70 to $200 per hour$360 to $500

These are ranges from rates published by Singapore tuition centres and tutor agencies in 2026. IP Physics is usually priced close to Sec 3 and Sec 4, or a little higher at upper secondary.

What makes one quote higher than another

  • Who is teaching. Undergraduate tutors usually charge the least. Ex-MOE teachers, scholars and subject specialists charge more, often $70 to $120 an hour.
  • Group or 1-to-1. A 1-to-1 tutor costs more per hour, but a small group class led by a specialist can cost less than a 1-to-1 lesson with a less experienced tutor.
  • Level. H2 Physics costs more than O Level because the content is heavier and fewer tutors teach it well.
  • What's included. Some fees cover notes, practice papers and help outside class. Others charge for these separately.

Hidden costs to ask about before you sign up

The monthly fee is rarely the whole picture. Ask about:

  • Registration fee, usually charged once when you join
  • Deposit, often equal to one month's fees
  • Material fees for notes, worksheets and practice papers
  • Holiday and crash course sessions, which are often charged on top of regular classes
  • Make-up lessons, and whether a missed lesson is replaced or simply lost
  • GST, if it isn't already included in the quoted fee

Cheaper isn't always better value

Compare what you get for the fee, not just the hourly rate. A good question to ask: if my child is stuck on a question at 10pm before a test, can they get help? Support outside class, good notes and a tutor who checks on every student in class often matter more than a few dollars an hour.

Worth remembering: the cheapest option often costs more in the end if it doesn't move the grade.

How to compare centres

  1. Ask how many students are in each class.
  2. Ask who will actually teach your child, and what their background is.
  3. Ask to see a sample of the notes.
  4. Read Google reviews that mention a starting grade and an ending grade.
  5. Ask whether a trial lesson is available before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

How often should my child have physics tuition?

Most students attend one 2-hour class a week. Some add crash courses before prelims and the national exam.

Is group tuition or 1-to-1 better for Physics?

Small groups suit most students: lessons are paced well and students learn from each other's questions. 1-to-1 helps students who need a lot of catching up or a very flexible schedule.

Do tuition fees include materials?

It depends on the centre. Always ask whether notes, worksheets and practice papers are included or charged separately.

When is the best time to start physics tuition?

Sec 3 for O Level and JC1 for H2, when the foundations are laid. Students who join later can still improve a lot, with the focus on exam technique and their weakest topics.
